PUNK
The ‘Punk ‘ Series is an evolving culmination of character studies that trace back to the early 90's working for KUNV, the top alternative college station in the country, I became entrenched both professionally and personally in a burgeoning alternative and punk rock scene that rooted me in Las Vegas and bounced me around Southern California. That love of punk is an ideology of counterculture and independent thinking that has matured over the years but is omnipresent.
Character studies. Ordinary juxtaposed with excess. Multi-layered and impasto painting techniques give depth. Textural collage elements are woven into the painting process to expose nuances in character and emote a unique energy conveying a deeper narrative. Distortion and deconstruction of traditional painting styles are repurposed as abstract stylings in portrayals that blur lines of reality. This body of work purposefully and counterintuitively takes you on a journey exploring cultural, social and economic inequalities throughout which color theory and textures are used prominently to emote a visceral energy
Switching up usual appearances in unusual ways my work creates an invitation to embrace and highlight imperfections. Grasping the beauty of diversity, taking notice of the subtle as well as the explosive nuances of our society and reflecting upon them.
