Cityscapes

Multilayering and deconstruction figure prominently in my atmospheric interpretations of NYC and the surrounds. As my eyesight is deteriorating with age, my primary focus is experimenting with light, abstractions and shapes. During the shutdown I came to appreciate capturing the streets when they were empty, because it was so unusual up to that point. Palette knives allow me to layer paint quickly evoking a spontaneous fresh look and energy. Quickly constructing and deconstructing ideas on canvas has taught me to give into and learn from serendipitous mistakes. Fostering mistakes and knowing which are welcome has lead to discovering new techniques.
